Treatex Hardwax Oil Natural

Treatex Hardwax Oil Natural can be used in two different ways:

1) As a base coat. On light coloured timbers such as oak, two coats of Treatex Hardwax Oil Clear will warm the colour of the wood. If you prefer to change the appearance of light coloured timbers as little as possible, apply a thin base coat of Treatex Hardwax Oil Natural before sealing with Treatex Hardwax Oil Clear. Our Natural Hardwax Oil contains a small amount of white pigment which neutralises the warming effect which is seen when our Clear Hardwax Oil is applied on its own. Treatex Hardwax Oil Natural should not be used as a base coat on darker coloured timbers.

2) As a top coat. For a brighter white seal our Spruce Colour Tone with two coats of Treatex Hardwax Oil Natural.

Preparation of surfaces to be finished with Natural Hardwax Oil

We advise that when using Natural Hardwax Oil, sufficient product is purchased to complete the project and when more than one tin is required it is advisable to mix them together before use. We strongly recommend a small trial application prior to starting a project.

Method 1 – as a base coat. Sand the surface to smooth bare wood using 80-120 grit sandpaper. Ensure that any previous finish has been fully removed. Remove dust, dirt, and any contaminates which may lead to uneven absorption of Natural Hardwax Oil. Make sure the surface to be treated is thoroughly dry. Stir tins and ensure product is at room temperature before use.

Method 2 – as a top coat. If you have applied a coat of Treatex Spruce Colour Tone within the last 24 hours then little preparation is needed. Make sure the previous coat is fully dry before overcoating with Natural Hardwax Oil. Remove dust, dirt, and any contaminates from the surface. Stir tins and ensure product is at room temperature before use.

Application of Treatex Hardwax Oil Natural

Method 1 – as a base coat. Natural Hardwax Oil should not be used as a base coat on darker coloured timbers. To change the appearance of light coloured timbers as little as possible, brush (not roller) on a thin coat of Natural Hardwax Oil. To avoid a patchy finish it is important that the Natural base coat is applied evenly. To avoid overlap marks wipe the wet surface lightly with a lint free cloth to distribute the colour evenly. Allow to dry – maintaining warmth and ventilation will enable the surface to dry within 3-6 hours. Once dry, seal with two coats of Treatex Clear Hardwax Oil which is available in Matt, Satin or Gloss sheen levels. Use a brush or roller to evenly apply Clear Hardwax Oil allowing roughly 50ml per m². Allow to dry – again, the surface should dry within 3-6 hours. Once dry, apply with a brush or roller a second coat of Clear Hardwax Oil. Allow to dry thoroughly overnight before the surface is lightly used. The surface will reach maximum hardness after a further 24 hours.

Floor Cleaning

It is very important to keep your floor clean – the result of people walking on a dirty and dusty floor is no different to a high-powered sander at work! Dust, dirt and grit should be regularly removed using a microfibre mop or a vacuum cleaner with a soft attachment.

 If your floor looks dull wash using Treatex Floor Care, which is designed to clean and maintain floors finished with Treatex Hardwax Oil without making the surface slippery. Treatex Floor Care contains vegetable oils and carnauba wax, this means that as the floor is cleaned a thin replenishing and protective layer of wax is also applied. Treatex Floor Care has a neutral PH value and contains no solvents, other brands of cleaning products may contain detergents that could damage your floor. Treatex Floor Care is available in concentrate form or a convenient ready to use spray (Treatex Spray On Floor & Surface Cleaner).

 If you are using Treatex Floor Care in its concentrate form begin by diluting 25-50ml of the product in 5 litres of water. Clean the floor with this solution using a mop, ensuring that the mop is only damp and never wet, or a slow buffing machine with a white pad. Care must be taken to mix the product to the correct ratio – making it repeatedly stronger can turn the floor slightly slippery, if this happens wash with only water 2-3 times which will correct the wax level.

 Alternatively spray the floor lightly with Treatex Spray On Floor & Surface Cleaner taking care not to soak the floor. Use a cloth, mop or slow buffing machine with a white pad to clean the floor. Shake Treatex Spray On Floor & Surface Cleaner well before use.

 To avoid swelling, never allow wood to remain damp or wet for any length of time.
